Television actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee has spoken up strongly after her young son Joy became the target of hateful comments on social media. Devoleena, who is popular for roles on Indian television, said attacking her toddler crossed a line.
In a message, Devoleena said that she has always accepted that being a public figure comes with both love and criticism. “I’ve faced trolls for my work and my lifestyle. It never bothered me much,” she shared. “Even when people questioned my marriage, I stayed silent. That was my choice, my right.”

But this time, she says, things went too far.
“What really hurt me is that these people targeted my baby,” she said. “Just because I didn’t react earlier, they assumed I would never speak up.”
She called out the hateful messages as being rooted in racism. “People forget that racism is a crime. And I won’t stay quiet when my son is attacked,” she said firmly. “I know he will grow up to be strong, but no child should have to face this.”
Devoleena has now taken legal steps. She has collected screenshots of the offensive comments and is filing a complaint with the cyber crime cell. Some of the troll accounts have already disappeared from social media, but she says they will come under radar.
“I am standing up to fight racism. We all have the right to live without fear and hate. I dream of a society where people are not judged by their appearance, religion, or background,” she added.
She urged others not to ignore such hateful behavior. “If we keep quiet, we let racism win. We need to speak up. These people must face consequences.”
Devoleena ended her statement by thanking the cyber crime department for taking her case seriously. “No one will be let off the hook. I’ll make sure no other child or parent has to go through this again.”
Devoleena married her gym trainer Shanwaz Shaikh in December 2022. The couple welcomed their baby boy, Joy, in December 2024.
